Beauty

Ok the people around here are tired of me saying...OHH look at that tree it's so beautiful in the fall colors.
Gabriela Mistral writes. : Beauty is the shadow of God on the universe.

Wow, even that takes my breath away. It is so great. It is amazing that we walk by beauty.
I know this is short...but I'm going to go out and see the trees in the morning.

rolling mountains

the hills turned to mountains
like waves on the ocean
stretching out to the horizon
lighted by the sun
valleys and farmland
deep flowing rivers
green and the reds and the yellows of fall

all of this reaching
deep in my spirit
memories of childhood and camp counselor years

all of us hoping that God is abiding
seeing the sun-set on old rolling hills.

The bird sings no one asks why

There is a Gary Larson cartoon with a chicken standing on one side of a road the sign says, "Why not?"

Why do we stand
On one side of the road
and just wait?

We are not chicken
but children of God
who have feet and a will to obey.

It does take some will
to obey the Creator
and do what we were created to be.
It does take some will
to say Your way not mine
and remember the plan that's ahead.

We'd rather stand still
and not do what we're called to
we'd rather be settled and set in our ways.
We confess that with laughter.
Not recognizing our sin there.
Someone else can just do it
we'll stay right here.

There are no excuses
about all the ranting
we do without doing all that we can.
God gave us brains and expects us to use them.
Let's get on going -there's no holding back.

a bridge too small

We crossed the Ganges river just East of Hardiwar on a bridge that I believe was made for people, maybe bicycles, perhaps a cart but a car? I wasn't sure. The men who were walking toward us on the bridge leaned out over the river holding on to the side. I should say they smiled as we passed them.
When I was learning to drive a long long time ago my Daddy said when you come to a narrow road, Aim Ahead. That's good advice. It sure worked here. Seriously. If you had looked left or right you might have taken off a rear-view mirror. It was that narrow.
As we crossed this bridge I realized we'd be crossing it again on the way home. We drove to the homes of some of the children who are in the Children's Homes. They come from parents who have leprosy. This beautiful, seriously, little village was on the bank of the Ganges. They worked each of them doing laundry for a local hotel. They welcomed us.
They knew the people who had brought us but we were strangers. No longer. We now know them and they us and we pray for one another. They pray to a Hindu God, I to my Christian God, but we pray for good things for one another. For them to be protected from the monsoons and the troubles they have. They prayed for safe journeys for us. They asked us to come back.

When did you see a stranger and invite them in? They would do it anytime.
God abides
perhaps our bridges are too small.
